Bukalapak Strengthens Platform Reassurance and Protection Against Counterfeit Products and IP Infringement
JAKARTA, Indonesia, Aug. 29, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Bukalapak, a leading e-commerce platform in Indonesia, has taken significant steps to enhance the security and protection of its platform, particularly in combating counterfeit products and bolstering its intellectual property (IP) protection measures.
Throughout 2024, Bukalapak actively engaged in key industry events, such as the IACC Annual Meeting in Orlando, US, and the INTA Annual Conference in Atlanta, US. These engagements provided a platform for the company to showcase its progress and future plans, receiving positive feedback from major stakeholders.
At the IACC Annual Meeting, Bukalapak met with industry leaders to discuss its ongoing efforts and future strategies. Stakeholders praised the significant improvements and expressed support for Bukalapak in light of the recent United States Trade Representative (USTR) report.
During roundtable discussions, Stefio Kurniadi, Bukalapak’s AVP of Trust & Protection, presented updates on takedown progress and service level agreements (SLAs), which were well-received by participants. This indicated a reduced concern regarding Bukalapak compared to previous years.
In the United States, Bukalapak also engaged with various stakeholders on similar issues. Discussions revealed that takedown actions are decreasing year-on-year, though further enhancements are necessary. Post-IPO, Bukalapak is shifting its focus to improve platform cleanliness and support for brands, including rigorous Know Your Customer (KYC) checks for sellers and plans to automate proactive monitoring measures. To address challenges in data protection and law enforcement cooperation, Bukalapak intends to collaborate with Indonesia’s DGIP (IP Protection Regulatory Body) and other authorities to discuss data sharing and online-to-offline (O2O) initiatives.
In efforts to enhance security, Bukalapak collaborates with multiple brand owners and regulators, including the National Narcotics Agency, the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Communication and Information, the Indonesian National Police, and other relevant institutions.
Bukalapak has also introduced a dedicated reporting portal called BukaBantuan for rights holders to report cases of intellectual property infringement on the Bukalapak app. The response time for these reports is documented as within 24 hours.
By taking proactive measures to combat counterfeit products and protect intellectual property, Bukalapak is solidifying its commitment to providing a safe and secure e-commerce platform for users and brand owners alike.
