Shanghai Electric Partners with National and Local Center to Establish Humanoid Robot Training Facility
Shanghai, March 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Shanghai Electric (SEHK:2727, SSE:601727) has officially signed a cooperation agreement with the National and Local Co-Built Humanoid Robotics Innovation Center in Shanghai to establish China’s first heterogeneous training ground for humanoid robots, known as the Humanoid Robot Kylin Training Ground. This groundbreaking facility aims to train up to 1,000 humanoid robots by the year 2027 to enhance industrial applications and propel the development of the humanoid robotics industry in China.
The Humanoid Robot Kylin Training Ground is currently capable of accommodating over 100 humanoid robots, making it the largest facility of its kind in the country. Shanghai Electric plans to significantly expand this capacity with the goal of simultaneously training 1,000 all-purpose robots by 2027.
During the opening ceremony, Shanghai Electric Nuclear Power Group, in collaboration with the National and Local Center and ten other research institutions and companies, entered into a joint agreement to accelerate the industrial application and research of humanoid robots. This initiative will encompass training programs in more than ten industries, including mechanical engineering, automotive production, and household appliances. By continuously training humanoid robots, extensive data on industrial scenarios will be collected, laying a solid foundation for the development of more precise robot models on a large scale and driving their widespread adoption and advancement in various sectors.
Since March 2024, Shanghai Electric’s central research institute has been working closely with the National and Local Center to explore real-world applications of humanoid robots, focusing on extreme and high-risk operational environments in the nuclear power industry. The initiative aims to gradually replace conventional high-intensity, high-risk, and repetitive tasks to improve efficiency and safety in nuclear power plant manufacturing, giving a new impetus to the intelligent transformation of the industry.
Following extensive research and collaborative experiments, Shanghai Electric and the National and Local Center successfully launched the first humanoid robot for routine operation in the nuclear industry on December 1, 2024. This robot boasts unique highlights that set it apart, including unique design elements focused on configuration and power control, data collection capabilities, and the ability to perform tasks like inspections and loading/unloading in industrial environments.
After the successful deployment of this humanoid robot in nuclear applications at the training facility, Shanghai Electric’s technical team will continue to collaborate closely with the National and Local Center. Leveraging Shanghai Electric’s expertise in nuclear energy production and technology, both parties will work to further integrate humanoid robots into industrial applications of nuclear energy, ultimately leading the sector to higher efficiency, safety, and technological excellence.
Shanghai Electric remains committed to groundbreaking innovations and driving industrial progress to ensure that humanoid robotics plays a transformative role in shaping the future of intelligent manufacturing.
