Hurom Wins Legal Battle Against NUC in Europe: Compensation, Recall, and Destruction Ordered
Hurom, the renowned innovator in slow juicing technology, recently emerged victorious in a significant legal battle against NUC, the maker of the Kuvings juicer line. The Unified Patent Court (UPC) of Europe ruled in favor of Hurom, ordering NUC to cease sales of its juicers in Europe due to infringement of Hurom’s European patent (EP2028981).
The court’s decision, handed down on March 11 in Mannheim, Germany, also mandated that NUC compensate Hurom for damages, cover all legal expenses, and recall and destroy all infringing products already in circulation. Specifically, the Kuvings AUTO10 juicer was identified as one of the infringing products.
This ruling reinforces Hurom’s standing as the original pioneer of vertical juicing technology, following previous legal victories in South Korea and the United States. In December 2024, the Korea Trade Commission found NUC guilty of patent infringement and unfair trade practices, imposing fines and corrective measures. Similarly, in July 2024, Amazon’s Amazon Patent Evaluation Express (APEX) process confirmed patent infringement by NUC, leading to the suspension of key Kuvings juicer models in the U.S. market.
Hurom’s CEO, Jaewon Kim, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “This ruling affirms Hurom’s technological leadership globally.” Kim emphasized the company’s commitment to combating patent infringement and counterfeit products that undermine their mission of promoting health through fruit and vegetable consumption.
The court’s decision serves as a warning to other companies engaging in similar practices, setting a precedent for protecting intellectual property rights in the industry. Hurom’s dedication to innovation and quality has been recognized and upheld through legal channels, ensuring a level playing field for all players in the market.
In conclusion, Hurom’s legal victory against NUC in Europe highlights the importance of respecting intellectual property rights and upholding fair competition. The ruling underscores the significance of innovation and originality in the industry, setting a standard for ethical business practices. As Hurom continues to lead the way in slow juicing technology, consumers can rest assured of the quality and integrity of their products.
