BE OPEN Participates in Sustainable Development Forum 2025 at UN Offices in Geneva
LUGANO, Switzerland, April 9, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — BE OPEN recently took part in the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development 2025 at the UN offices in Geneva on April 2 and 3. The forum, themed “Promoting Sustainable, Inclusive, Science-Based, and Evidence-Based Solutions for the 2030 Sustainable Development Program and its SDGs,” brought together UN governments, international organizations, civil society, universities, youth, the private sector, and other stakeholders to discuss strategies to accelerate progress towards achieving the SDGs.
The forum kicked off with a high-level political debate titled “Sustainable, Inclusive, Science-Based, and Evidence-Based Solutions to Accelerate Progress on the SDGs.” Notable speakers included Amina J. Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary-General, Tatiana Molcean, Executive Secretary of the UNECE, and Ivana Živković, UNDP Regional Director for Europe and the CIS. The UN leaders emphasized the urgency and need for increased commitment and action towards a sustainable agenda.
Despite efforts to achieve the SDGs in the UNECE region by 2030, challenges such as economic uncertainties, political changes, ongoing conflicts, and the global crisis continue to hinder progress. A recent UNECE report revealed that only 17% of the 125 measurable goals will be met by 2030, with 84 goals requiring accelerated progress and 20 goals needing a reversal of current trends.
The forum’s theme resonated with BE OPEN’s mission, as the foundation’s international student competition, “Designing Futures 2050,” aims to inspire innovative solutions from youth to contribute to sustainable values and principles. Founder Elena Baturina highlighted BE OPEN’s commitment to raising awareness among students about the SDGs and the need for urgent action to address current realities and implement sustainable practices.
BE OPEN continuously supports and rewards young individuals developing solutions to transform inadequate systems and create a more equitable and environmentally prosperous world. The foundation’s program aims to empower future generations to approach the 2050 agenda with knowledge, skills, responsibility, and passion.
In conclusion, BE OPEN’s participation in the Sustainable Development Forum underscores its dedication to fostering sustainable solutions and engaging youth in shaping a better future. The foundation’s efforts align with the global push towards achieving the SDGs by 2030 and beyond. Let’s continue to work together towards a more sustainable and inclusive world.
