Supermicro Introduces New Servers Optimized for AI Workloads at the Edge
Supermicro, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMCI), a Total IT Solution Provider for AI/ML, HPC, Cloud, Storage, and 5G/Edge, has unveiled a wide range of new systems optimized for edge and embedded workloads. These compact servers, based on the latest Intel Xeon 6 processors, offer advanced AI capabilities for improved efficiency and decision-making close to where data is generated.
The new SYS-112D series from Supermicro is designed to run powerful Edge AI solutions and features the newly launched Intel Xeon 6 SoC with P-cores. These servers provide higher performance, better performance per watt, and increased memory bandwidth compared to previous generation systems. They also come equipped with AI acceleration, Intel QuickAssist technology with wireless protocols, Intel vRAN Boost technology, Intel Data Streaming Accelerator, and other innovations.
One of the standout models, the SYS-112D-36C-FN3P, is powered by the Intel Xeon 6 SoC with 36 P-cores, dual 100 GbE QSFP28 ports, up to 512 GB DDR5 memory, and a PCIe 5.0 FHFL slot for a GPU or other add-on card. This server is ideal for Edge AI and media workloads, with features like Intel’s onboard Media Acceleration and QuickAssist technologies. Another model, the SYS-112D-42C-FN8P, is optimized for telecommunications, offering 8 25GbE ports, built-in GNSS and time synchronization technology, and an Intel Xeon 6 SoC model with Intel vRAN Boost for various workloads in the RAN network.
Supermicro has also introduced two new compact systems, the SYS-E201-14AR and SYS-E300-14AR, optimized for IoT and AI inferencing at the far edge. These systems feature Intel Core Ultra processors from the 15th generation (codenamed Arrow Lake), with up to 24 cores and an onboard NPU AI accelerator. With two 2.5 GbE network ports, HDMI, Display, and USB connectors, these systems are ideal for enterprise edge use cases. The SYS-E300 can be expanded with a single PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, allowing for the installation of a PCIe GPU card to enhance performance for Edge AI applications in various industries.
In edge datacenters, Supermicro’s Edge AI systems can now be deployed with the newly launched Intel Xeon 6700/6500 series processor with P-cores. This processor group is designed for enterprise datacenters, offering a strong balance of performance and efficiency with 1.4x better performance than the previous generation across a wide range of workloads. The SYS-212B-FLN2T, part of Supermicro’s 2U Edge AI product line, combines the new Intel processor with up to 6 GPU accelerators in a front I/O form factor with short depth, suitable for deployment in enterprise edge, telco, and space-constrained environments.
