Iceye Introduces Generation 4 Satellite with Launch of Four New Satellites

ICEYE has launched its latest SAR satellite, the Generation 4 satellite, which offers unique imaging capabilities for improved target detection and classification in the global defense and ISR markets. The company has successfully deployed four new 25 cm resolution satellites, strengthening its SAR satellite constellation, making it the largest in the world. The Generation 4 satellite is a significant advancement in ICEYE’s SAR technology, providing high-quality SAR images for challenging applications in natural catastrophe response and national security.

The satellites were launched on March 15, 2025, aboard the Transporter-13 rideshare mission with SpaceX from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA. Each spacecraft has been successfully integrated and communication has been established, with routine commissioning operations underway.

ICEYE’s Generation 4 satellite offers the best SAR image quality available, doubling the size of the SAR antenna and radiated SAR power. This enables the satellite to cover a larger imaging area, ranging from 150 km to 400 km swath width, with a 30% increase in information density. The satellite also includes advanced orbit control for target imaging and increased imaging capacity for congested areas in a single pass.

This new generation of satellites will provide customers with improved situational awareness, faster decision-making capabilities, and better mission outcomes. The enhanced detection and classification capabilities will make it easier to identify vessels, vehicles, and aircraft in demanding defense and intelligence environments. ICEYE is set to unveil more information about the latest Generation 4 technology enhancements and how they benefit customers in the upcoming weeks.

The launch of the Generation 4 satellite solidifies ICEYE’s position as a leader in SAR satellite innovation. With a focus on providing critical infrastructure for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) to allied nations, ICEYE’s SAR development meets the increasing demand for space-based technology in global defense markets, according to CEO and Co-founder Rafal Modrzewski.

ICEYE has already launched 48 SAR satellites into orbit since 2018 and plans to continue at a rapid pace, with more than 20 new satellites expected to launch annually in the years to come. The company’s first launch of 2025 saw four new satellites successfully deployed.
