WildBrain Ltd., a global leader in kids’ and family entertainment, announced an update on its television broadcast business, including Family Channel, Family Jr., WildBrainTV, and Télémagino. The company has a definitive agreement to sell a majority stake in these channels to IoM Media Ventures, an independent Canadian-owned children’s studio based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Due to a decision from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission regarding Bell Canada, WildBrain has been unable to negotiate a new carriage agreement for the channels with Bell. As a result, Bell intends to remove the channels from its distribution service.
WildBrain and IoM are currently renegotiating certain aspects of their Sale Agreement in light of these developments. WildBrain’s President and CEO, Josh Scherba, expressed disappointment in Bell’s decision but remains optimistic about reaching a revised agreement with IoM.
Despite these challenges, WildBrain continues to be a strong player in the global kids’ and family entertainment industry. The company is focused on key franchises such as Peanuts, Strawberry Shortcake, and Teletubbies. Once the transaction with IoM is completed, WildBrain will no longer be subject to Canadian control restrictions under the Broadcasting Act.
The company maintains its Fiscal Year 2025 outlook and will provide more details on its long-term strategy during its upcoming fiscal Q3 2025 earnings call. For further information, media and investors can contact Shaun Smith and Kathleen Persaud, respectively.
WildBrain is dedicated to creating exceptional entertainment experiences that captivate audiences of all ages. With a vast library of content and award-winning series, the company continues to grow its global presence through licensing, production, and audience engagement.
